Two days left

Today (Tuesday) and tomorrow are our last full days here on Maui. We've had a fantastic holiday and continue to do so.
Yesterday we bought our last pineapple, papaya, & mango... all incredibly delicious.

Sherri Reeves

While in Makawao this morning we made another stop at Sherri's shop.

Donuts from Makawao

What can I say about this bakery? Well, how about this: we gave up a beach morning to drive to Makawao to this well known bakery... old fashion goodness!

Ocean beauty

Banana bread

Along the road was a stop for freshly baked banana bread. A loaf was brought home to share.

Beautiful church

The Keanae Congregational Church was founded in 1860. Check out the lava rocks.

Long, narrow winding road

The 52 mile trip included 617 curves and 60 one lane bridges.

Rainbow Eucalyptus

The Rainbow Eucalyptus tree represents one of the many unique, natural features he pointed out along the way.

Joe

They reported that Joe, their Hawaiian guide, was the best tour guide anyone could have. He was full of local lore, incredibly knowledgable of local history and geography. He also added a personal touch by adding anecdotes about his family. He was connected to the nature of the natural environment, often speaking of them as though they were part of his extended family.

Hana

Last week Marilyn, Pam, Clarice, & Teri took a guided day tour to Hana, located along Maui's southeastern coast.
Their day started with a 7am pickup at our condo office. 'Valley Isle Excursions' provided a 12 seated, air conditioned, large windowed converted van.
From the office, they travelled to a golf course for breakfast.

New caftan

Yesterday we went into Wailuku and shopped at 'Ross Dress For Less'... well, actually Sandy & Marilyn 'shopped' while Pam & I quickly looked around and then returned to the car to read our novels. ( we were sharing a book that fell apart... Pam reading the first part while I finished off the second part)
Look at the caftan selected for me by Sandy.

Lava Fields

Yesterday afternoon we drove south of Makena Beach through several miles of lava fields to the end of the road. From there, a hiking trail follows the ocean front... an interesting area to explore.
